Pretty good overview on a few different aspect of past and present life in Richmond.
-Smells
“delightfully smelly city”….cookie, spice, tobacco….bullshit! ….no mention of the ‘shit factory’ on the south side of the river…The truth? — Richmond smells of urine and feces….period.
Happy to see these pieces revived in this way and hope you’ll pull more recent ones off the wcve.org website. Richmond is definitely a city of contrasts, as your earlier commenter noted. But I feel impelled to spin these toward the light, not away from it. As Steibeck said: “It is true that we are weak and sick and ugly and quarrelsome but if that is all we ever were, we would millenniums ago have disappeared from the face of the earth.”
